Americorps Mentoring Program

Each week AmeriCorps After School Members at each site are expected to complete at least 5 mentor sessions with each of their assigned Mentees'. Using their assigned binder with lesson plans, mentors will log their sessions with their Mentees'. This is designed to be able to track the one on one session, as well as record important notes that are reviewed by the Unit Director. This information is then relayed to the BGCNCFL's Club Student's Teacher or parent.

MEET ZACH SHELNUT

BGCNCFL AmeriCorps Program Coordinator

Originally from Halen, Georgia, he played sports like golf and baseball while growing up. He also enjoyed JROTC. A few years he joined the National Guard and served for 6 years. During this time he also decided to go to the Police Academy. Zach spent a few years as a police officer exploring various aspects of the job when he discovered that being a K9 Handler/Trainer was his passion. Zach eventually left law enforcement and attended a private K9 Trainer School in Florida where he learned to train pets and Police/Military working dogs.


Today Zach still trains dogs in his spare time, however Zach is very ecstatic to be currently working with the Boys & Girls Club of North Central Florida and the new Americorps Program Coordinator. He looks forward to helping mentor the next generation into their future careers during his time in Americorps Program.
