AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs aimed at improving lives and fostering civic engagement. AmeriCorps places thousands of adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
AmeriCorps is a civil society program with a goal of "helping others and meeting critical needs in the community." The program is often seen as a domestic Peace Corps.
The Boys & Girls Club of North Central Florida has AmeriCorps members who serve at five locations in Taylor County and one location in Lafayette County. AmeriCorps members
assist youth with academic based activities that will increases their knowledge and result in increase academic performance and school readiness.

Program Preformance Measures
AC Volunteers
AmeriCorps members will recruit community members to volunteer in the AmeriCorps program. Each of the six locations will be responsible for recruiting volunteers to work in the program.
BGC AC
Use of evidence based positive youth development program quality strategies to empower youth toward positive outcomes. This AmeriCorps application's focus is education-number of students with a positive change in skills, attitudes, and mindset that is likely to contribute to increased educational success. The AmeriCorps Members (AM) assist with the programming in a support role and provide supportive relationships through quality interactions based on positive youth development strategies. The Club is a Positive Youth Development program that employs a research-based academic and prevention programming to serves at- risk low-income students. Through the 21st Century Community Learning Center and Head Start grants, the Club offers robust educational and personal development programming. AM serve as “Youth Development Professionals”. A Youth Development Professional, in this context, is an individual who is trained in positive youth development strategies to work with youth and make a meaningful impact through supportive relationships. Students, particularly at-risk students, need additional support to help them thrive academically and reach their full potential. The instructional staff deliver rigorous academic instruction and prevention programming with limited time. The need to bridge social emotional strategies to academic learning occurs within the context of a supportive relationships. AM fill the gap between instructional staff and students providing increased positive youth outcomes and opportunity.
AC Head Start
Low school readiness for Taylor County youths. The Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener revealed 56% of Taylor County students entering kindergarten are not ready. Head Start students are required to attend 5 days per week for 10 months. Students will enjoy the research
based Creative Curriculum that uses developmentally appropriate activities to prepare students for
Kindergarten. AmeriCorps members will assist students and reduce the adult student ratio. AmeriCorps
members will assist within the Head Start classrooms using research based curriculum.
